Google celebrated 70th anniversary of LA Tomatina by making a  messy Google doodle. LA Tomatina is a world famous and the biggest festival of  food fight celebrated in Spain held in Buñol Valencia every year in  August just for entertainment purpose.


LA Tomatina was started in 1945 (29 Aug 1945) in a very strange manner during the figures parade in town square, buñol Valencia, Spain.


 The crowd started to throw tomatoes on each other because of a man who fell from a float in the parade and started to hit everyone in anger in a vegetables market, this was the first Glimpse's of LA Tomatina.

Some young guy's liked what happened in the middle of the parade and they brought tomatoes from their home to fight out their quarrels and made history without knowing anything before they were stopped and jailed by local enforcement.


This was repeated again and again by local guys on every last Wednesday of august every year which established the festival but the festival was continuously banned by the town official's aand they completly banned the festival in 1950. But in 1957 the festival was made official due to the demand & the popularity it gained among the buñol citizens , since than the festival was celebrated and loved all around the world.

  • The festival was first organized by saint Luis Bertrán in 1975 who brought in tomatoes for the festival & after that town council took over the responsibility in 1980.

  • Approx 120 tonnes of tomatoes are thrown in Valencian town Buñol every year.

  • The town produce almonds, grapes, olives but no tomatoes despite the large number is used in the festival.

  • No date scheduled for the festival but on last Wednesday of August every year the festival takes place.

  • LA Tomatina was free for participants from 1945 till 2012 but Buñol mayor Joaquín mesmano pelmar imposed a €10 fee to participate from 2013.
