Hindi Diwas is celebrated on 14 August every year on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as an official language of republic of India. Here are some other facts about our native language.


  • Hindi got its name from a Persian word 'Hind' which means 'Land of Indus river'.

  • Hindi is the 2nd largest speaking language of the world & around 258 million people speak, read and write Hindi in India and other countries.

  • Fiji islands, Guyana, Mauritius, Suriname are some countries where most people speaks Hindi.

  • After deciding Hindi as official language, national campaign committee, Wardha(established in 1936) was appointed to promote the language in every part of the country & after 1953, 14 August is celebrated as Hindi Diwas.

  • Hindi language is mainly created by Arya's and Persian's & has its roots with Sanskrit.

  • In TV channels and entertainment world Hindi language contribute around 75% of profit through Advertisements.

  • The collection of Jurassic world 2015's Hindi dubbed version released in India was more than Jurassic world's worldwide collection is the latest example of how Hindi language contributes in entertainment world.
